The Catholic Defender: St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Novena - Day 6

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 

Amen.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne is the patron saint of perseverance amidst adversity. You can ask her to pray for you if you are experiencing hardship and are struggling to persevere through it. You can also ask her to pray for someone you know who is trying to persevere through adversity.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne is also a great saint to seek intercession from if you work in Catholic education, since she devoted her life to teaching as a religious sister. Or you can ask her to pray for someone you know who works in Catholic education.

Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us St. Rose Philippine Duchesne as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the love of You she showed in her openness to following Your will in her life.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, you followed God’s call to the religious life when you were nineteen years old. Despite many difficulties, you continued to follow God’s call for the rest of your life.

Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us St. Rose Philippine Duchesne as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the virtue she showed in her faithful years of work as a Catholic educator. 

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, you entered a religious order that was devoted to educating young women. Though you faced many difficulties in your vocation, you persevered in following God’s call.

Please persevere in bringing our petitions before God!

You later journeyed to the United States to work as a missionary sister. There, you established a school for settlers’ daughters and the first free school in the area west of the Missouri River. 

Pray for me, that I may always be as open to following God’s call in my life as you were. Pray that I may be faithful to my vocation each day.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

I am being eaten alive by loneliness, starvation and over homelessness. Can someone pray for me.

I'm tired of pretending everything is okay when it's not. I'm worn out from hiding my tears, my fears, and my doubts. I'm struggling to find my way, and it feels like no one sees the real me. A gentle word, a listening ear, or a comforting presence would be a beacon of hope in my darkness. Please see me, hear me, and know that I'm not alone.
