The Catholic Defender: St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Novena - Day 2

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne was a religious sister who lived in the 1700s-1800s. She was a member of the Religious Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She established the first communities of her order in the United States.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne did a lot of important work for the Church in the United States. You can use this novena to seek intercession from this holy religious sister in your life!

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne is the patron saint of perseverance amidst adversity. You can ask her to pray for you if you are experiencing hardship and are struggling to persevere through it. You can also ask her to pray for someone you know who is trying to persevere through adversity.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne is also a great saint to seek intercession from if you work in Catholic education, since she devoted her life to teaching as a religious sister. Or you can ask her to pray for someone you know who works in Catholic education.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Prayer by Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne I am where God wills me to be, and so I have found rest and security. His wisdom governs me, His power defends me, His grace sanctifies me, His mercy encompasses me, His joy sustains me and all will go well with me.

Rose Philippine Duchesne. Prayer: Gracious God, you filled the heart of Philippine Duchesne with charity and missionary zeal, and gave her the desire to make you known among all peoples. Fill us who honor her memory today, with that same love and zeal to extend your kingdom to the ends of the earth.

Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us St. Rose Philippine Duchesne as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the love of You she showed from the time she was a child.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, your family members did not want you to devote your life to God in a religious vocation. But despite their opposition, you chose to dedicate your life to serving God.

Please bring my petitions before God Whom you served!

You entered the Visitation of Holy Mary religious order when you were nineteen years old. Though your family did not support this decision, you wholeheartedly devoted yourself to your vocation.

Pray for me, that I may never allow the opposition of others to deter me from serving God. Pray that I may be as eager to serve God as you were.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
