The Catholic Defender: The Five Smooth Stones of David and the Rosary

1. Whosoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
The Philistines rallied their forces for battle at Socoh in Judah and camped between Socoh and Azekah at Ephes-dammim. Saul and the Israelites rallied and camped in the valley of the Elah, drawing up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines were stationed on one hill and the Israelites on an opposite hill, with a valley between them. 1 Samuel 17:1-3
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
A champion named Goliath of Gath came out from the Philistine camp; he was six cubits and a span* tall. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a bronze breastplate of scale armor weighing five thousand shekels, bronze greaves, and had a bronze scimitar slung from his shoulders. 1 Samuel 17:4-6
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin and defeat heresies.
The shaft of his javelin was like a weaver’s beam, and its iron head weighed six hundred shekels.* His shield-bearer went ahead of him. He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel: “Why come out in battle formation? I am a Philistine, and you are Saul’s servants. Choose one of your men, and have him come down to me. If he beats me in combat and kills me, we will be your vassals; but if I beat him and kill him, you shall be our vassals and serve us.” 1 Samuel 17:7-9
4. It will cause good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for Eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means!

The Philistine continued: “I defy the ranks of Israel today. Give me a man and let us fight together. ”When Saul and all Israel heard this challenge of the Philistine, they were stunned and terrified. David Comes to the Camp. David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah who had eight sons. In the days of Saul Jesse was old and well on in years. 1 Samuel 17:10-12

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
The three oldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to war; the names of these three sons who had gone off to war were Eliab the firstborn; Abinadab the second; and Shammah the third. David was the youngest. While the three oldest had joined Saul, David would come and go from Saul’s presence to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem. 1 Samuel 17:13-15
6. Whosoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of Eternal Life.

Meanwhile the Philistine came forward and took his stand morning and evening for forty days. Now Jesse said to his son David: “Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves for your brothers, and bring them quickly to your brothers in the camp. Also take these ten cheeses for the field officer. Greet your brothers and bring home some token from them. Saul and your brothers, together with all Israel, are at war with the Philistines in the valley of the Elah.” 1 Samuel 17:16-19

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
Early the next morning, having left the flock with a shepherd, David packed up and set out, as Jesse had commanded him. He reached the barricade of the camp just as the army, on their way to the battleground, were shouting their battle cry. The Israelites and the Philistines drew up opposite each other in battle array. David entrusted what he had brought to the keeper of the baggage and hastened to the battle line, where he greeted his brothers. While he was talking with them, the Philistine champion, by name Goliath of Gath, came up from the ranks of the Philistines and spoke as before, and David listened. 1 Samuel 17:20-23
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the Light of God and the plenitude of His Graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the Merits of the Saints in Paradise.
When the Israelites saw the man, they all retreated before him, terrified. The Israelites had been saying: “Do you see this man coming up? He comes up to insult Israel. The king will make whoever kills him a very wealthy man. He will give his daughter to him and declare his father’s family exempt from taxes in Israel.” David now said to the men standing near him: “How will the man who kills this Philistine and frees Israel from disgrace be rewarded? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should insult the armies of the living God?” They repeated the same words to him and said, “That is how the man who kills him will be rewarded.” 1 Samuel 17:24-27
9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
When Eliab, his oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he grew angry with David and said: “Why did you come down? With whom have you left those sheep in the wilderness? I know your arrogance and dishonest heart. You came down to enjoy the battle!” David protested, “What have I done now? I was only talking.” He turned from him to another and asked the same question; and everyone gave him the same answer as before. The words that David had spoken were overheard and reported to Saul, who sent for him. 1 Samuel 17:28-31
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of Glory in Heaven.
Then David spoke to Saul: “My lord should not lose heart. Let your servant go and fight this Philistine.” But Saul answered David, “You cannot go up against this Philistine and fight with him, for you are only a youth, while he has been a warrior from his youth.” Then David told Saul: “Your servant used to tend his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or bear came to carry off a sheep from the flock, 1 Samuel 17:32-34
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by recitation of the Rosary.

I would chase after it, attack it, and snatch the prey from its mouth. If it attacked me, I would seize it by the throat, strike it, and kill it. Your servant has killed both a lion and a bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, because he has insulted the armies of the living God.” David continued: “The same LORD who delivered me from the claws of the lion and the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul answered David, “Go! the LORD will be with you.” 1 Samuel 17:35-37

12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic, putting a bronze helmet on his head and arming him with a coat of mail. David also fastened Saul’s sword over the tunic. He walked with difficulty, however, since he had never worn armor before. He said to Saul, “I cannot go in these, because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. Then, staff in hand, David selected five smooth stones from the wadi and put them in the pocket of his shepherd’s bag. With his sling in hand, he approached the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:38-40
13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
With his shield-bearer marching before him, the Philistine advanced closer and closer to David. When he sized David up and saw that he was youthful, ruddy, and handsome in appearance, he began to deride him. He said to David, “Am I a dog that you come against me with a staff?” Then the Philistine cursed David by his gods 1 Samuel 17:41-43
14. All who recite the Rosary are my Sons, and brothers of my Only Son Jesus Christ.
and said to him, “Come here to me, and I will feed your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.” David answered him: “You come against me with sword and spear and scimitar, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have insulted. Today the LORD shall deliver you into my hand; I will strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will feed your dead body and the dead bodies of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field; thus the whole land shall learn that Israel has a God. 1 Samuel 17:44-46
15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

All this multitude, too, shall learn that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves. For the battle belongs to the LORD, who shall deliver you into our hands.” The Philistine then moved to meet David at close quarters, while David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. David put his hand into the bag and took out a stone, hurled it with the sling, and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone embedded itself in his brow, and he fell on his face to the ground. 1 Samuel 17:47-49

David said to Goliath, "You come against me with sword and spear and scimitar, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have insulted. All this multitude, too, shall learn that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves. For the battle belongs to the LORD, who shall deliver you into our hands.” There are many enemies of the Church that seek to destroy faith not only in America, but throughout the world. The Rosary is a great weapon to counter the Goliath of our Time.
The 15 promises of our Lady for praying the Rosary tells us that we receive graces from God. Protection is promised which is most important. I have seen examples of God's protection using the Rosary in battle saving many lives in Iraq. David's sling slew the giant Goliath, today, the faithful's hands, guided by a faithful heart has a mighty effect upon the giants of today. Most importantly, this protection is against the fires of hell!
Young David chose to take on Goliath with 5 smooth stones and a sling, the Rosary is a devotion much more important than even the 5 stones of David! Mary's Rosary is a weapon that strikes fatal wounds against evil. Only good things come from God, Our Lord's grace is life saving especially when darkness seeks to smother you.
Death will not overcome the faithful Christian who practices their faith praying the Rosary which deepens our desire to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. The five smooth stones of David symbolize the Mass, Confession, the Bible, the Rosary, and Fasting. Consider "David's Sling" to represent the five mysteries in the daily Rosary. As it took one stone to bring down Goliath, one faithful heart God can use to bring down evil one person at a time. An Army of Rosary Prayer Warriors can stop wars, natural disasters, convert souls.
To grow in holiness is vital for the Christian, the Rosary devotion will aid greatly in pleasing our Lord, and will help you respond to His love for you. To dedicate time in prayer is powerful against the root causes of sin. The battle lines are drawn and sin is very prevalent. The Lord wants to raise the standard against this rising tide.
To be dedicated in praying the Rosary Our Lady promises that Our Lord will have a high place in Heaven for those who serve Him. You are a child of God, a family member of the Lord, a brother and sister. St. Padre Pio called the Rosary "the weapon for these times". There have been times in my life that I was hanging on by a "scarlet thread", and for me the Rosary was life saving keeping me in this family.
Without God's grace and protection, people are subject to all kinds of heresies and false doctrine. The faithful Catholic stands their ground holding fast the Faith of the Apostles. The Rosary is Heaven's peace plan to help us in our walk.
