The Catholic Defender: The Three Days Of Darkness and Catholic Prophecy
After being inspired by our Radio show with John Carpenter and Judy Alciatore, "Deepertruth: The Virgin Mary's Prophecies Concerning The Chastisement", I wanted to take a deeper look into what the Virgin Mary and the Saints have said about the subject matter. But I first place the biblical foundation.
The following is taken from Exodus chapter 10:21-23, "Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt." So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; they did not see one another, nor did any rise from his place for three days; but all the people of Israel had light where they dwelt."
Is there anything that we can glean from this? Notice that darkness was to be felt? I've been in the desert where there were no street lights, no traffic, a place where you could not see your hand a foot from your face, but I never felt that kind of darkness. Also notice that the duration was three days. That has a numerical value attached to it, Jesus was in the tomb for three days as an example. The darkness was so "thick" the Egyptians could not move about under normal circumstances. Everything shut down, yet the people "of Israel had light where they dwelt".
In our radio show, I brought up a recognized Catholic Saint, Elizabeth Canori Mora, she was born in Rome on November 21, 1774 and died on February 5, 1825:
Thanks to her confessor, her revelations were preserved in hundreds of pages of her own writings.
Today, the Trinitarian Fathers at San Carlino, Rome hold her manuscripts for safekeeping in their archives.
These writings were meticulously examined at length as a safeguard against doctrinal errors when Pope Blessed Pius IX authorized Elizabeth Canori Mora’s cause for canonization to proceed.
The ecclesiastical censor commissioned by the Holy See released his official judgment on November 5, 1900. It stated “there is nothing against faith and good customs, and no doctrinal innovation or deviation was found.”
During her life the Lord gave great signs that are recognized by the Church. St. Elizabeth was beatified by St. Pope John Paul II on 24 April 1994. This is significant because St. Elizabeth has been given the proper credentials to speak on the things revealed to her by Our Lady.
On 22nd March, 1814, Bl. Elizabeth was praying for Pope Pius VII, when she suddenly had a vision of the Holy Father being persecuted by a pack of "wolves": During this vision, she saw the pope: "surrounded by wolves who plotted to betray him… I saw the Sanhedrin of wolves which surrounded the Pope, and two angels weeping… when I asked them why they were sad and lamenting, looking upon Rome with eyes full of compassion they responded, ‘Wretched city, ungrateful people, the justice of God will chastise you."
2 Thessalonians 2:3 St. Paul refers to this apostasy before the man of lawlessness and calls for the Church to remain vigilant.
One of her prophecies states: “When this bloody fight will arrive, the vengeful hand of God will weigh upon these fated ones and with His omnipotence He will chastise the proud for their rashness and shameless insolence. God will use the powers of darkness to exterminate these sectarian, iniquitous and criminal men, who plot to eradicate the Catholic Church, our Holy Mother, by tearing Her up by Her deepest roots, and casting Her on the ground.”
Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi (19th century, Italy)
Though an ordinary housewife and mother, Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi led an exemplary spiritual and Christian life that gained her the reputation as one of the greatest saints of all time.
She experienced frequent ecstasies, performed miraculous cures, read hearts, foretold deaths, and predicted the coming of future events.
She foretold the first two world wars that wreaked havoc in the twentieth century.
Eighteen years after her death, her body remained supple and in-corrupt. Amid praises, Pope Benedict XV beatified her on May 20, 1920.
Her maiden name was Giannetti. She was born at Siena, Italy, 29 May, 1769; died at Rome, 9 June, 1837. From the time she was 20 years old, until she died at the age of 63, she was accompanied by a mysterious light in which she saw past, present and future events…some relating to struggles among nations; some relating to individual souls.
Popes and cardinals have referred to this holy married woman as one of the greatest saints of all time.
Blessed Anne-Maria was praised by Pope Benedict XV at her beatification on May 20, 1920 as being an exemplary wife and mother amid poor and trying circumstances.
Psalms 123:2 states, "Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he have mercy upon us."
Blessed Anne foretold the first two world wars (Plausible Matthew 24:7) of twentieth century. Again, Eighteen years after her death, her body remained fresh and in a state of perfect preservation as if it had been just buried the day before.
The following is her prophecy on the three days of darkness.
“God will send two punishments: one will be in the form of wars, revolutions and other evils; it shall originate on earth. The other will be sent from Heaven. There shall come over the whole earth an intense darkness lasting three days and three nights. Nothing can be seen, and the air will be laden with pestilence which will claim mainly, but not only, the enemies of religion. It will be impossible to use any man-made lighting during this darkness, except blessed candles. He, who out of curiosity, opens his window to look out, or leaves his home, will fall dead on the spot. During these three days, people should remain in their homes, pray the Rosary and beg God for mercy.”
“All the enemies of the Church, whether known or unknown, will perish over the whole earth during that universal darkness, with the exception of a few whom God will soon convert. The air shall be infected by demons who will appear under all sorts of hideous forms.”
Something else Blessed Anne warned, “Religion shall be persecuted, and priests massacred Churches shall be closed, but only for a short time. The Holy Father shall be obliged to leave Rome.” (Yves Dupont, Catholic Prophecy, Tan Books and Publishers, 1973) Could this be somehow linked to the current Muslim Invasion of Europe taking place before our eyes? I can't say
The prophet Isaiah also spoke of a day of darkness:
“Behold, the day of the Lord shall come, a cruel day, and full of indignation, and of wrath, and fury, to lay the land desolate, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven, and their brightness shall not display their light: the sun shall be darkened in his rising, and the moon shall not shine with her light. And I will visit the evils of the world, and against the wicked for their iniquity: and I will make the pride of infidels to cease, and will bring down the arrogance of the mighty.”
There is so much written about these prophecies it would take forever to compile all of them, there is much also coming from the Bible that speaks to the heavens being shaken.
'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day."
Mark 13:25, "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken."
Luke 21:26, "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken." It would seem that our Government today want to blame the weather on "Climate Change", with all this nonsense of their ultra-left agendas, do you think their failed attempts to solve problems through improper regulations will stop the Day Of The Lord?
Matthew 21:29, "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;30 then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory".
In doing a little research, I couldn't help but see what the Apostles wrote concerning end time prophecy would also have Saints given reflection of these events given by Our Lord and Our Lady. No body knows the actual day and hour (Matthew 24:36, Luke 13:32), but we are to watch the signs of the times (Matthew 16:3).
We are to stay awake and be vigilant holding fast to our Catholic Faith, we are to contend for it (Jude verse 3).
From the New Testament, we also learn that a cloak of darkness enveloped the world when Our Lord died on Calvary as was recorded by the gospels:
“Then from the sixth hour, there was darkness over the entire earth, until the ninth hour.” (Mt 27:45).
“And when the sixth hour came, there was darkness throughout all the earth, until the ninth hour.” (Mk 15:33).
“But it was almost the sixth hour, and there was darkness in the entire earth, until the ninth hour.” (Lk 23:44).
We will have to take each day one day at a time, and offer the Lord the best of ourselves. Jesus instructs us to persevere to the end in order to be saved (Matthew 24:13). St. John warns, “They will fight the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings” (Rev 17:14).
